做隐士比我想象的要难。 最大的障碍是祈祷。并不是说祈祷很难，而是集中精力祈祷的纪律很难。我告诉自己，祷告现在是我的 "工作"，我必须像其他工作一样努力。我的目标是保质保量地完成祷告，就像禅宗僧侣在专注的祷告中坐上一个又一个小时。是的，没错。问题的很大一部分在于如何开始，因为总是有另一本有趣的书要读，或又一次长途跋涉到风景优美的地方，或洗衣服，或铲雪，或滑雪，或其他。

多年前我教长笛时，发现我的学生从不练习。当被问及此事时，他们总是回答说太忙了。于是，我让他们保证每天只练习两分钟。无论多忙，任何人都应该能抽出两分钟的时间。当然，一旦他们开始练习，两分钟就会变成五分钟，十分钟，二十分钟。主要的障碍只是开始。当要求练习二十分钟时，我的学生根本不练习，但如果要求练习两分钟，我的学生最终会练习二十分钟。

好吧，为了祈祷，我必须对自己进行同样的约束。因此，我的 "保质保量 "祷告只是每天早上花两分钟，下午花两分钟，晚上花两分钟冥想。每天总共只需六分钟！而且很有效！因此，当我坐下来时，我会告诉自己，我只需要冥想两分钟，如果冥想时间延长到十分钟、半小时或整整一个小时，那都是 "意外收获"，因为所需的时间只有两分钟。
