The following is from the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen website:
Our institution develops its educational approach within the framework of socio–critical humanist theory and responds to the characteristics and needs of our students, who are at the center of the learning process.
At the start of each class, we create spaces for prayer, silence, and listening to foster constant personal renewal; we practice fraternity at all times to foster connection with others and the development of human sensitivity. We instill a spirit of service to develop decision-making skills, generating innovative ideas for helping others, leadership committed to development, and social responsibility.
We recognize that today’s students must participate in transforming their environment, developing into agents of change with critical and democratic thinking, and promoters of healthy coexistence as individuals guided by (institutional) principles and values that will lead them to assume commitments and responsibilities toward society.
RESEARCH
As an educational institution, we seek to provide students with opportunities to construct their own learning, drawing on life experiences and classroom activities. The environment we create fosters interaction with peers, helping students internalize the habits of healthy coexistence and engage with their surroundings, thereby enabling them to contribute to society guided by the principles within the framework of our faith.
INNOVATION
At our school, we propose new models for educational practice and employ a variety of methodologies in the learning process, tailored to the classroom context and the needs of the group. This approach brings greater dynamism and depth to student learning, reinforcing their well-rounded education in a more enjoyable, meaningful, and experiential environment. The focus is on the student, both inside and outside the classroom, to whom we offer diverse learning opportunities such as educational visits, field trips, the use of digital and technological tools, and hands-on laboratory work, in addition to sports and cultural workshops.
To foster the development of autonomy and social skills, and to respect our students’ different learning paces, we offer tutoring, counseling, school mediation, psychological guidance, and pastoral care.
We utilize cloud-based study tools. We promote environmental stewardship through productive hydroponics and recycling practices. We implement the Junior Achievement and Idea Brillante programs to provide entrepreneurship training.
ENGLISH
Carmelita students complete their education capable of interacting and communicating at a high level in English across diverse geographical contexts, for various purposes, and using a wide range of lexical registers.
Our students are assessed through an agreement with the Universidad del Pacífico based on the Cambridge exams—the international Starters, Movers, and Flyers exams—which are graded by badges earned in different skill areas. Our graduates are well-prepared to communicate in this second language in accordance with the demands of higher education and the workforce.
The KET, PET, and FCE exams have specific score requirements that indicate proficiency levels and are useful for university admission.
The Carmelites of the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, in allegiance to Jesus Christ, live in a prophetic and contemplative stance of prayer, common life, and service. Inspired by Elijah and Mary and informed by the Carmelite Rule, we give witness to an eight-hundred-year-old tradition of spiritual transformation in the United States, Canada, Peru, Mexico, and El Salvador, and Honduras.
