Introducing Dennis Kalob and the Laudato Si’ Action Plan
At the recent Carmelite regional gatherings held in Tucson, Arizona, and Niagara Falls, Ontario, participants had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Dennis Kalob, the director of the Carmelite Province’s Laudato Si’ Action Plan, a strategic effort developed by the Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Commission aimed at integrating Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home into the daily life and ministry of the Carmelites. Dennis offered a concise yet insightful overview of the JPIC’s work in drafting the Action Plan.
The Action Plan represents a significant commitment to ecological awareness and social justice, rooted in the Carmelite charism. Dennis explained how the plan is not just a document but a living process, involving community reflection, measurable goals, and a deepening of the Carmelite witness to sustainability and solidarity. He emphasized both the spiritual and practical aspects of the plan, encouraging active participation from individuals, communities, and ministries throughout the Province.
In the video below, Dennis offers a personal perspective on his role in this work, sharing his motivation, his background in justice and economic issues, and his belief in the transformative power of faith-based ecological action. His reflections remind us that this work is not only about environmental stewardship but also about honoring the dignity of all creation. Through his leadership, the Carmelite family is being invited into a deeper commitment to justice, peace, and the integrity of creation.

The Carmelites of the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, in allegiance to Jesus Christ, live in a prophetic and contemplative stance of prayer, common life, and service. Inspired by Elijah and Mary and informed by the Carmelite Rule, we give witness to an eight-hundred-year-old tradition of spiritual transformation in the United States, Canada, Peru, Mexico, and El Salvador, and Honduras.
