Carmelite Priest Myron Judy Dies
(8/7/2025; Darien, IL) The Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary of the Order of Carmelites mourns the death of their brother, Reverend Myron Judy, O.Carm., who died at the age of 88 on August 7, 2025, in Darby, Pennsylvania.
Visitation for Reverend Judy will take place at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien, Illinois on Tuesday, August 12, at 5:30 PM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 7:00 PM. Internment will take place at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 13, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
Myron was born to the late Maurice Earl Judy, Jr. and Esther (Strunk) Judy on June 29, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. His given name at baptism was Maurice Earl Judy, III. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret McNicholas and Mary Ann Baletto.
Myron grew up in Holy Cross Parish in Chicago, attended grammar school at the Carmelite Parish of St. Clara’s and then one year of high school at Mount Carmel High School, Chicago. In 1951, Myron went to Mount Carmel College Junior Seminary in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, for his sophomore year of high school, followed by two years at the Carmelite Junior Seminary in Hamilton, Massachusetts. Completing his Novitiate in New Baltimore, Pennsylvania, Myron professed his first vows as a Carmelite on August 22, 1957, taking the religious name of Myron.
Myron continued his theological studies at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC, where he professed his solemn vows on August 22, 1960. He was ordained to the priesthood on August 18, 1963 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, by Bishop Thomas McCarthy.
Fr. Judy received a Master’s Degree in American History from the University of Notre Dame in 1965, as well as an STL Degree from the Catholic University of America, where he majored in Ethics and Moral Theology, in 1965. Myron received a Master’s Degree in Education in counseling and college administration from the University of Illinois in 1975 and a Master’s in Social Work Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981.
Father Judy’s first assignments were in parish ministry at St. Mary Parish in Closter, New Jersey and St. Anastasia Parish in Teaneck, New Jersey from 1965-1966. In 1967 he taught at Mount Carmel College in Niagara Falls, Ontario as Assistant Professor in History. In 1968, he taught at St. Gregory’s Junior College in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Father Judy then joined the staff of Residential Living at the University of Illinois while pursuing his Master’s in Education Degree there, from 1968-1971.
From 1971 to 1975, Father Judy served as the Director of Residential Life and Student Affairs at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1975 to 1977, he served as Special Assistant to the Provost and Dean of Students at the University of Detroit. In 1979, Father Judy began studies in Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon receiving his Masters in Social Work, he joined Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia as Director of their Social Service Department. From 2006 until 2023, Father Judy served the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary as the Provincial Director of Health Care.
Fr. Judy died at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania on August 7, 2025. May he rest in peace.
