I enjoy running, reading anything by Tolkien and creative writing. At the moment, my favorite Carmelite saint is John of Saint Samson. He was relatively uneducated, blind, of ill-health and low social status. Yet so dynamic was his relationship with Jesus that it catalyzed an era of Carmelite reform.<\/em><\/p>\n Derrick Turrentine, a pre-novice (postulant) in the Carmelite Order wonders why Jesus compares his followers to four-footed, cud-chewing mammals.\u00a0 Derrick is born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia.
