I moved to the USA when I was twelve years old with my family, leaving behind my grandparents and numerous cousins. I never had the opportunity to go back to Mexico to visit my grandparents.<\/p><p>Faith and Catholicism has always been a big part of my culture. I grew up participating in many church activities however I never understood many things in church. I always questioned everything because I like to learn facts.\u00a0 I was never the little girl that believed anything.<\/p><p>For example, if my mother tells me to get on my knees I will question why. If my mother asked me to pray to a saint, I would question why. If she told me to pray the rosary, I would also question why so many Hail Mary\u2019s and so forth. I always thought that I was rebellious, but really, I was just looking to connect more with God and my religion.\u00a0 I grew up not finding myself in church and always somehow felt empty like I was missing something.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" old, unfortunately, I got married and divorced six months later.\u00a0 Being so young, for me, it was the end of the world. It was also my greatest blessing because I turned myself to God.\u00a0 I met Fr. Felix Rivera, O.Carm\u2019 and I got close to God without questions because I felt it in my heart.<\/p><p>I moved on, remarried, and had four beautiful children, now young adults, two girls and two boys.\u00a0 I attended mass regularly at our lady of Mount Carmel in Joliet with my husband and my children.\u00a0 When my children started their first communion classes I became a catechist and I really enjoyed it but somehow I still felt like I was missing something. It always got my attention to belong to a church group, especially seeing how close they were and seeing the fraternity among them. It got my attention. But working full time and having four children it was almost impossible to join in.<\/p><p>One day after Mass I got asked if I wanted to belong to the Lay Carmelite Community. Of course, I said no because I am a busy mom.\u00a0 They convinced me by saying that the meetings were only once a month. God really likes to joke. I joined the group but had many questions like when I was little and questioned my mother.\u00a0 The members at the time didn\u2019t know the answers so of course I asked them to take me to a reliable source. Bingo, they brought me to Darien to meet Sr. Libby Dahlstrom.\u00a0 As soon as I stepped out of the car, I felt the love of God in that place that I call heaven on earth.<\/p><p>Visiting the National Shrine and Museum of St. Therese was incredible. I had always felt a connection with St Therese and felt like she was inviting me to live the greatest experience of my life.\u00a0 Sadly, I found out that our group in Our Lady of Mount Carmel was not a Lay Carmelite Community, it only a Spirituality Group.\u00a0 When Sr Libby explained what a Third Order was, my heart was full of joy and finally, I didn\u2019t feel empty anymore.\u00a0 I remember that day like it was yesterday.\u00a0 Like I said before, it felt like heaven on earth.\u00a0 I asked Sr. Libby to help us establish a community of Spanish speakers.\u00a0 She explained the process. Of course it was a long process, but I was willing to do it.\u00a0 A few months passed and I really expressed to the director of the group that we needed to follow rules with the direction of Sr. Libby and Cindy Perazzo.<\/p><p>On the morning of October 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2020, I received a call from Cindy.\u00a0 She asked me to be the director of our Spirituality Group. Of course, I said no. She asked me to think about it and was going to call me later.\u00a0 That morning, I had a beautiful dream about St Therese and the Virgin Mary.\u00a0 Mary put a bunch of roses in a crystal box and St Therese was grabbing a rose at a time and handed them to me one by one, warning me to be careful because of the thorns.\u00a0 It was just the most beautiful dream I had ever had. It didn\u2019t take long to realize that it was a message from St Therese, and it was also the day that we honor St. Therese. I agreed to take over the group. I talked to Cindy and explained to her that I did not know anything about Carmel and how the Lay Community works but I was willing to learn and warned her that I like to ask many questions because I wanted to do everything right.<\/p><p>Due to some instabilities of the group, in March of 2021, we were put on a pause for a year. Several members of the group desired to leave the group and that left us with only a few but it was not enough to move on. Even though the group was on a pause, to keep moving up with the process Cindy and Sr. Libby agreed that we could continue to meet as a Spirituality Group with their guidance.\u00a0 We needed at least thirteen members to continue to move on and not only were we able to recruit thirteen, but we went from five to thirty people very quickly.\u00a0 I kept Sr. Libby and Cindy informed of how fast the group was growing.\u00a0 We knew we were on a pause but we prayed and at one point I remember telling all the members that only God knew what was coming in the future and everything was in His hands and if His will was for us to just pray in that hall and never receive the scapular we were willing to accept this but we wanted to learn everything about Carmel and live the way of life as a true Carmelite. We had all fallen in love with Carmelite Spirituality.<\/p><p>In March of 2022, we finally completed step six of the procedures to become an official Lay Carmelite Community. We worked hard during this process and translated CDs and documents to Spanish to have our Spanish community with Gods help.\u00a0 On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, Cindy Perazzo sent us the letter accepting our request to become an official Lay Carmelite Community with the community number #1430 and the name Santa Teresita. We received a special blessing from our Pastor Father Enrique Varela O Carm. on July 16, 2023, and were able to start phase I of formation.<\/p><p>For the glory of God and with Our Lady\u2019s help on July 15, 2024, seventeen members had their reception into Carmel.\u00a0 It was just a beautiful ceremony.\u00a0 We are all very blessed to receive the Scapular and to be the first Spanish Community in Illinois. Cuando cumpl\u00ed 12 a\u00f1os mi familia\u00a0 y yo nos mudamos a los Estados Unidos, dejando en M\u00e9xico a mis abuelos y numerosos primos. Nunca tuve la oportunidad de regresar a M\u00e9xico a visitar a mis abuelos.<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>La fe y el catolicismo siempre han sido una gran parte de mi cultura. Crec\u00ed participando en muchas actividades de la iglesia, sin embargo, nunca entend\u00ed muchas cosas en la iglesia. Siempre cuestiono todo porque me gusta saber la verdad y el porque de las cosas.<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Por ejemplo, si mi madre me dec\u00eda que me pusiera de rodillas, yo la cuestionaba. Si mi madre me ped\u00eda que rezara a un santo, yo la cuestionaba. Si ella me ped\u00eda que rezara el rosario, tambi\u00e9n la cuestionaba en por qu\u00e9 tantas Avemar\u00edas y dem\u00e1s. Siempre pens\u00e9 que era rebelde, pero en realidad, solo buscaba conectarme m\u00e1s con Dios y mi religi\u00f3n.\u00a0 Crec\u00ed sin poder acoplarme a ningun grupo en la \u00a0iglesia y siempre me sent\u00ed vac\u00eda de alguna manera, como si me faltara algo.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Cuando cumpl\u00ed 19 a\u00f1os, tuve un matriminio fallido que solo duro seis meses, hubo motivos suficientes para que mi matrimonio fuera anulado bajo las leyes de la Iglesia.\u00a0 Siendo tan joven, eso para m\u00ed era como el fin del mundo, pero al mismo tiempo fue mi mayor bendici\u00f3n, porque esta situacion me hizo mirar las maravillas de Dios. Durante este proceso conoc\u00ed al P. F\u00e9lix Rivera O.Carm y\u00a0 platicando con el, sin pensarlo, comense acercarme a Dios, ya sin cuestionar, porque ya lo sent\u00eda en mi coraz\u00f3n.\u00a0 Despues de un tiempo en la Iglesia conoci a mi actual esposo, nos casamos y tenemos 4 hermosos hijos que ahora ya son j\u00f3venes adultos, dos ni\u00f1as y dos ni\u00f1os.\u00a0 Juntos asistimos regularmente a misa en Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Monte Carmelo en Joliet.\u00a0 Cuando mis hijos comenzaron sus clases de primera comuni\u00f3n, me convert\u00ed en catequista y realmente lo disfrut\u00e9, pero de alguna manera todav\u00eda sent\u00eda que me faltaba algo.\u00a0 Siempre me llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n pertenecer a un grupo de la iglesia, especialmente aprender de \u00a0la fraternidad Carmelita. Siempre he sentido una conexi\u00f3n especial con Santa Teresita y sent\u00ed que me invitaba a vivir la experiencia m\u00e1s grande de mi vida.\u00a0 Tristemente, descubr\u00ed que nuestro grupo en Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Monte Carmelo no era Tercera Orden Carmelita, solo era un grupo de Espiritualidad Carmelita.\u00a0 Cuando la hermana Libby me explic\u00f3 lo que era una Tercera Orden, mi coraz\u00f3n se llen\u00f3 de alegr\u00eda y, finalmente, ya no me sent\u00ed vac\u00eda.\u00a0 Recuerdo ese d\u00eda como si fuera ayer.\u00a0 Como lo dije antes, se sent\u00eda como el cielo en la tierra.\u00a0 Le ped\u00ed a la Hermana Libby que nos ayudara a establecer una comunidad en espa\u00f1ol.\u00a0 Ella me explic\u00f3 el proceso, pero por supuesto que era un largo proceso, pero yo estaba dispuesta a hacerlo.\u00a0 Pasaron unos meses y realmente le expres\u00e9 al director del grupo en ese momento, que necesit\u00e1bamos seguir las reglas con la direcci\u00f3n de la hermana Libby y Cyndi Perrazo Coordinadora Provincial de los laicos Carmelitas,peticion que paso desapercivida. Pero las maravillas de Dios apenas venian.<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>En la ma\u00f1ana del 1 de octubre de 2020, recib\u00ed una llamada de Cyndy Perrazo, para pedirme que fuera la directora de nuestro Grupo de Espiritualidad Carmelita y por supuesto, le dije que no. Me pidi\u00f3 que lo pensara y que me iba a llamar m\u00e1s tarde.\u00a0 Esa ma\u00f1ana, tuve un hermoso sue\u00f1o con Santa Teresita y la Virgen Mar\u00eda, la Virgen puso un ramo de rosas en una caja de cristal y Santa Teresita agarraba una rosa a la vez y me la entregaba, una por una, advirti\u00e9ndome que tuviera cuidado con las espinas.\u00a0 Fue el sue\u00f1o m\u00e1s hermoso que he tenido en mi vida. No pas\u00f3 mucho tiempo para darme cuenta de que era un mensaje de Santa Teresita, y tambi\u00e9n era el d\u00eda en que honramos a Santa Teresita. Habl\u00e9 con Cindy para decirle que aceptaba ser la directora del grupo haciendole saber, que no sab\u00eda nada sobre el Carmelo ni c\u00f3mo funcionaba la Comunidad Laical, pero que estaba dispuesta a aprender advirtiendole que me gusta hacer muchas preguntas, porque quer\u00eda hacer todo bajo las reglas.<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Debido a algunas inestabilidades en marzo de 2021, el grupo se puso en pausa durante un a\u00f1o. Varios miembros deseaban abandonar el grupo y eso nos dej\u00f3 solo con unos pocos, pero no eramos suficiente para seguir adelante. A pesar de que el grupo estaba en una pausa para seguir avanzando con el proceso, Cyndy y la Hermana Libby acordaron que continuaramos reuni\u00e9ndonos como grupo espiritual con su gu\u00eda.\u00a0 Necesit\u00e1bamos al menos trece miembros para seguir adelante y en poco tiempo, no solo pudimos reclutar a trece, sino que pasamos de cinco a treinta.\u00a0 Mantuve informadas a la hermana Libby y a Cindy de lo r\u00e1pido que crec\u00eda el grupo.\u00a0 Sab\u00edamos que est\u00e1bamos en una pausa, pero siempre en oracion y en un momento dado, recuerdo que les dije a todos los miembros que solo Dios sab\u00eda lo que vendr\u00eda en el futuro y que todo estaba en sus manos y que si su voluntad era que solo or\u00e1ramos en ese sal\u00f3n y nunca recibi\u00e9ramos el escapulario que est\u00e1bamos dispuestos a aceptarlo, pero quer\u00edamos aprender todo sobre el Carmelo y vivir la forma de vida como un verdadero carmelita, ya que todos nos enamoramos de la espiritualidad carmelita.<\/em><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>En marzo de 2022, finalmente iniciamos el sexto paso de los tr\u00e1mites para convertirnos en una Comunidad Carmelita Laica oficial.
