Das Wort \"katholisch\" bedeutet \"universell\", und die heutige Heiligsprechungsmesse war wirklich ein universelles Ereignis.  Es waren 100 konzelebrierende Bisch\u00f6fe, 1000 konzelebrierende Priester und 50.000 normale Menschen, die die Piazza f\u00fcllten - aus allen Kontinenten und wahrscheinlich aus allen Nationen, in allen Hautfarben und in allen Arten von regionaler Kleidung.  Die Liturgie war mehrsprachig: die ersten Lesungen auf Englisch und Franz\u00f6sisch, der Psalm auf Italienisch und das Evangelium auf Russisch!  Die F\u00fcrbitten waren auf Niederl\u00e4ndisch, Tamilisch und Spanisch.  Und die Teile der Messe waren in Latein.  Ja, diese Kirche nimmt das Wort \"katholisch\" sehr ernst.<\/p>\n<p>Die Messe begann mit dem Choral \"Veni Creator Spiritus\".  Danach stellte der Pr\u00e4fekt f\u00fcr die Selig- und Heiligsprechungsprozesse in Begleitung des jeweiligen Promotors (Postulator genannt) die zehn k\u00fcnftigen Heiligen vor.  An dieser Stelle wurde die Veranstaltung zu einem Sportereignis.  Wenn der Pr\u00e4fekt den Namen eines k\u00fcnftigen Heiligen nannte, schrien Teile der Menge, die f\u00fcr diesen Heiligen gekommen war, und machten viel L\u00e4rm.  Den gr\u00f6\u00dften L\u00e4rm machte der Heilige Devasahayam Pillai (aus Indien), den zweitgr\u00f6\u00dften der Heilige Charles Foucauld (aus Frankreich und Algerien) und den dritten Platz belegte unser eigener Heiliger Titus Brandsma (Niederlande).  Nachdem Papst Franziskus die Namen akzeptiert hatte, erkl\u00e4rte er sie zu Heiligen f\u00fcr die Weltkirche (da ist dieses Wort wieder).  W\u00e4hrend der Chor und das Volk das \"Gloria\" sangen, legten die Postulatoren Weihrauch in eine gro\u00dfe Zensurstelle vor einer Ausstellung mit den Reliquien der zehn Heiligen.  Und das war's.  Die Zeremonie war beendet.  Der Rest der Messe verlief wie eine normale Sonntagsmesse am f\u00fcnften Ostersonntag irgendwo auf der Welt.<\/p>\n<p>Das hei\u00dft, bis zur Predigt.  Papst Franziskus betonte, dass das neue Gebot Jesu, einander zu lieben (Johannes 13), nicht nur f\u00fcr einige wenige au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Individuen gilt, sondern f\u00fcr uns alle - dass es einen universellen Ruf zur Heiligkeit gibt (ja, da ist dieses Wort wieder).<\/p>\n<p>Mehr als ein paar Mal hatte ich Tr\u00e4nen in den Augen, als ich sah, wie alle Ethnien und V\u00f6lker gemeinsam Gottesdienst feierten, als ich h\u00f6rte, dass w\u00e4hrend der Messe so viele Sprachen offiziell verk\u00fcndet wurden, und als ich sah, wie die Jungen, die \u00c4lteren, die Rollstuhlfahrer, die Gehbehinderten und die Nichtbehinderten alle zusammen in einem fr\u00f6hlichen Gewimmel von Menschen zusammenkamen, und ich sagte mir: \"Das ist genau das, worum es im heutigen Evangelium geht\" und \"Das ist genau das, was Jesus voraussah, als er die Kirche gr\u00fcndete.\"  Der irische Schriftsteller beschrieb die katholische Kirche einmal als \"hier kommen alle\".
